Why Are You a Crow? Kelsey Confreda

For the most part, I am a frequent volunteer for Calling All Crows. I was also a leader for Rhode Island’s service project during the “Green Summer of Service.” I am so lucky to have been a part of the inaugural Northampton Halloween 5K, all of the Annual Benefit weekends, the Green Summer of Service and so many other great projects, big and small. Working with Calling All Crows since its establishment has been so exciting.

Thursday Thanks - Annual Benefit Special

As many of you know, Calling All Crows' 4th Annual Benefit Show & Auction was two weeks ago and, through your support, we raised over $28K! During the event, we had some amazing Crows volunteer their time to greet supporters, support the auction, sell raffle tickets, and be a positive public face for Calling All Crows. We couldn't have done it without you!

This week, our THURSDAY THANKS goes out to those amazing volunteers!

Our Crows are our volunteers, people that care, people that want to be involved, and can be anyone. Calling All Crows depends on our Crows who want to be involved and help create change and make a difference. All of our events, we need Crows to support us. To be there with energy and excitement and love for the group.

Below we have some comments from the Crows we wanted to thank this week about their experience at the Annual Benefit Show.  I hope you're as inspired as I am!

    - Dani Freiberg, Fall Intern

"I've been involved with Calling All Crows for about a year and half now, and I think the Benefit Weekend is the pinnacle of the organization. It's when all the work we've put in for the year pays off, especially when we hear how much money was raised over the year. I'm so proud of the Crow family and to be a part of it."

"I loved volunteering for this event! There are very few things I believe to be more powerful than a person, or group of individuals, using their passions towards building a community of people that give a damn. Love it!"

"I love all the crows so much! It  is such an honor to work alongside people that have passions just like mine. The event went really well and it was amazing being a part of it all!"

"I liked the whole event so much! It was a different experience than the average show but I always love to help out calling all crows."

"The Annual Benefit showed the sense of community and commitment Calling All Crows and its followers have. As a volunteer, it became obvious to me that the people who came to the event were not just attending for the music, but they were also there to rally behind any cause that CAC is invested in. It was an honor to see such a great collaboration between music and service."

"There was not an ounce of bad energy for what seemed like miles for the entirety of the event.  Everyone coming together for a common purpose was a really beautiful thing!"

"This was my first big Calling All Crows event to work and it was an incredible experience. From seeing it come together piece by piece then working it the night of. CAC does amazing things and this is just one of them. I can't wait to do more and do more good."

Chadwick Stokes & The Pintos headline Annual Benefit Show, raise $28K+ for Calling All Crows -- nearly 2x last year's event!

BG Photography - http://www.facebook.com/bobgphoto Chadwick Stokes & The Pintos, the new solo project of musician Chad Stokes (Dispatch, State Radio), headlined Calling All Crows' 4th Annual Benefit Show on Saturday night at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston. The show netted over $28,000 - nearly double last year's Annual Benefit Show total - for Calling All Crows, the non-profit co-founded by Stokes and tour manager Sybil Gallagher. Calling All Crows partners with musicians and fans to create change through hands-on service and activism.

Joining The Pintos were the Boston-based Parkington Sisters and Stokes’ Ruff Shod labelmate, The White Buffalo, who made his third Annual Benefit Show appearance in as many years. In addition to their opening sets, The Parkington Sisters took the stage after the encore break for a take on the State Radio rarity, The Story of Benjamin Darling, Part I, and The White Buffalo sat in with The Pintos for a raucous rendition of Black Bottle, which takes place at Cloudberry Farm, Stokes’ childhood home in nearby Sherborn, Massachusetts.

A staple of Calling All Crows’ Annual Benefit Shows is the presentation of the Lauzie Award, which is dedicated in honor of Sybil’s late mother, Laura “Lauzie” Gallagher, a woman who embodied a true spirit of service and inspired others to do the same. This year, the Lauzie Award was dedicated to Martina Davis-Correia, the sister of Troy Davis, who was executed by the State of Georgia on September 21st for the murder of an off-duty police officer more than two decades ago. Martina was the leading advocate for her brother to receive a new trial due to holes in the case against him. Martina had planned to be in Boston to accept the Lauzie Award on Saturday night until her 13-year battle with breast cancer claimed her life less than two weeks ago. She will be remembered for her fight to abolish the death penalty across the country and her unwavering commitment to family.

Since December 2008, Calling All Crows has invested more than 17,000 volunteer hours at pre-show service projects in local communities across North America and Europe and donated over $250,000 to empower and protect women in Sudan and Afghanistan. Calling All Crows works for a future when the success of live music is measured not only by ticket sales, but by the impact of fans and musicians mobilizing together to make a difference in the world.

Why Are You a Crow? Chris Daly

I’ve worked with Calling All Crows in one way or another for the past three years. From being an action leader for the first Northampton 5K, to volunteering and participating in Alternative Break Tour II, otherwise known as the Best Alternative Break Tour, to most recently working on the Mobilization Team for the Northampton 5K. Each of these positions that I’ve held have brought new appreciation for the organization and the change that is created through the actions of the Crows around the world.
