Alternative Break Tours
Alternative Break Tours are unique volunteer trips for music fans looking to create change through hands-on service and activism. Designed to give service and activism-minded music fans a taste of life on tour, ABTs are full-immersion, 5-day/4-night experiences that transform communities and the lives of the participants. Volunteers (ages 21+) travel together from town-to-town on the ABT bus/van, completing service projects with local non-profit organizations by day and catching one of their favorite bands live on stage each night.
To date, Calling All Crows has organized twelve ABTs with DISPATCH, Fun., Rombello music cruise, State Radio, and Chadwick Stokes, each focusing on an issue from women’s empowerment to LGBTQ equality to the environment. Our last ABT took us to Munich, Graz, Budapest, and Vienna, learning about gender equality along the way.
The ABT builds community among fans who want an experience that offers more than the music. Participants form an incredible bond in this full-immersion experience and become lifelong friends, as well as gain experience and skills in service and activism that change their lives. Following their ABT experience, many volunteers become dedicated Calling All Crows supporters, human rights activists, AmeriCorps members, and more.
Here’s what one volunteer had to say about her experience:
“Going on an Alternative Break Tour is one of the experiences that has defined who I am as a person. The relationships I created are ones that will last a lifetime. Meeting the band was incredible. But the experience that I will keep in my heart forever was the joy in the eyes of the children we volunteered for with City Year London. Giving through building relationships and creating art is exactly the kind of work that I hope to do for the rest of my life, no matter what my future career may be.”
There are no upcoming Alternative Break Tours scheduled at this time, but check back for future opportunities to hit the road with Calling All Crows!
